West Bengal – Darjeeling – Day 6 – 2005

We are at Tiger Hill, 2590 meters above sea level, or 8497 feet. It is a cool morning. We are 5 miles from Darjeeling now and we plan to make a dawn excursion to see the sunrise.

We are looking out at the third tallest mountain in the world. It is called Kanchenjunga and stands 8586 meters or 28,169 feet tall, standing out amongst the other mountains around it. If the air is clear, we might see Everest. Do you know of the English man, Everest? It’s an amazing story.

There are many things to see in Darjeeling. There is the Zoological park which has had success with breeding snow leopards, Tibetan wolf, and Red Panda, the Mountaineering Institute with its Everest Museum, and the Tibetan Refugee center.

We were up at 5 A. M. for some of these trips.

We did most of them. When will we get back here? We did most of them just in case we don’t.

Ghoom Gompa Monastary  is 8 kilometers south of the town and worth seeing.
