Pemayangtse – Sikkim – Day 7 – 2005

The Kingdom of Sikkim was annexed into India in 1975. It became the 22nd Indian state.

We are driving to the Pemayangtse Monastary. The great monastary, is the second oldest of 60 still active. It has an exceptional collection of religious artworks.

This mystical Tantric Buddhism was established in the 8th century by the famous Indian Teacher, Padmasambhava. They are known for the red caps that they wear. The religion is derived from Tibetan Lamaism. It is a religion based on a mixture of Mahayana buddhism, mythology and magic.
