Posted Oct.20,2024-Day 8, Wed.Sept.11, 2024- Fly to Amboseli and game viewing.

We took a short flight from our first camp back to Nairobi.

We then drove six hours through high mountains and villages to Amboseli.

We have left the green rolling hills behind and foe a flat desert looking place after crossing over jungle covered mountains. Kilimanjrao stands tall in the distance but impossible to see due to haze and clouds. The smoke of charcoal ads to the ambience around us.

Everyone here cooks with charcoal and the smell of it permeates the air we are breathing. It is a danger to the people who cook in their homes as well. No one seems to notice the smell.

We have seen many elephants, hippos, and other animals on our journey. But we are now in elephant country.

There are shrubs, grasses and flora and faunna all around us but it changes quickly and often as we move on. There are bare spots of brown soil with white patches. These areas are bare as they contain a high content of salt. This area was once a sea.

The trees off in the distance imply that water or a small river might be near by. We drove by giant marshes filled with elephants and hippos eating quietly close to the road and in the distance.

This time our camp is inside of an electrical fence for protection from lions and other curious beasts. Here in this camp the Black Faced monkeys rule and cavort over the roof of the lodge, the permanent tents and vehicles.

This is exactly like our last camp which is fine. It is comfortable and makes this trip easier than some we have been on. The internet seems better here for some reason and we hope for better access to electricity.

We are all getting along well on this adventure. That makes for a much better trip, of course.

We are looking forward to another fine meal this evening. The soups here are especially good.
