We have been in the Serengeti for two days now. The camp is fine. The view is beautiful and endless. The bright orange sun sinks down below the horizon with majestic power and warmth. Two more days to go.
We had African thunder showers off and on today. The game viewing was excellent this morning with loads of elephants, hippos, antelope and a few lions tossed in for good measure wandering across the vast grasslands. There were thousands of animals to see.
The problem of the dust is gone for the moment.
Some of the tall grass has been burned away by man and nature to make way for new fresh grass for the endless beasts that need it to survive. Horns of the unlucky cape buffalo that have become meals for lions can be seen sitting on the black, bare soil.
The weather has given us quite a show before dinner. The new Toyota Land Cruiser’s roofs are leaking where they meet the frame above the windows. There have been a few minor problems with the vehicles but not anything to stop our adventures each day. The vehicles are a dark green and the animals never seem to notice them. I suppose they have become part of their natural environment.
Poaching has been stopped her so the animals do not fear us. If we leave the vehicles we may be eaten, so we stay inside.
Making your bathroom stops before leaving camp is a good idea.
The skies and landscapes are wonderful and very different from home. Isn’t that one of the reasons for traveling?
The food has been wonderful. However a spider did crawl out my wife’s rice the other night. She was not amused but this is life in the bush. There are animals all around us.
We have emergency whistles to blow if a lion comes into our tent. Great, I feel much safer now having my whistle close at hand.
Animals of all sorts wander through our camp. We are in Africa after all.
Life on safari can be full of surprises. Some great and some not so much. Be ready for anything when you come out here.
