“Can we go to Africa?” “Sure but when do you want to go?” Well, how soon can we get married?” “That depends. Do you want a big fancy wedding and a long honeymoon? What do you want? it’s up to you.”
“Well, if I had my druthers, I say a small wedding now and a grand reception when we come back from our honeymoon if you family wants a big party.” “I’m fine with that but my parents may have something to say about that.” Susan knew that Chad was close with his family due to the fact that he worked with his father nearly everyday and his mother was a hands on mother even though the two boys were well up in years. “I’ll do I’ll what ever they want Chad, I’ll give them that. It’s just the right thing to do. But the rainy season is coming to Rwanda soon so we have a small window of opportunity to go this year.
I know their social position makes our marriage very important to them and gives them a chance to show you and your brother off.” “Oh Suzan, don’t make it sound like a bad thing. My folks love to throw big parties every chance they have. It’s their way of of showing off and spreading their money around to our friends and small businesses in our neighborhood. Don”t begrudge them that on our special day.” “You’re right of course Chad, I’m sorry. As far as the honeymoon goes, I have always wanted to go to Easty Africa and to see the migration and the Mountain Gorillas.” It’s been a dream of mine for years.”
That was a lie. She had only seen that area of the map, thanks to Joe and just a few months ago. He loved the Mountain Gorillas and the landscapes around those massive volcanoes in that part of Africa. “The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest crater on earth and a must see. It’s where many of the animals live. It’s a giant bowl. I hear the drive there is amazing. Up through misty jungles on narrow muddy roads and then up and over the rim of the crater.” That’s when you can see for miles and see the animals spread out beneath you. I have read a little about it. It sounds fantastic.” “It sounds a little dangerous actually, Suzan. “Perhaps, but this is something really special. It’s primeval.”
Truth be known, Suzan had little experience planning a vacation like this. That is why she and Joe had decided to use a travel company and go on a safari. Everything was already sorted out and nothing was left to chance. Suzan loved the idea. Suzan’s forte was planning dinner parties and shopping sprees, not grand vacations and safaris. She had little imagination when it came to this type of thing.
“East Africa it is then dear; Chad said with a wide smile on his face. His blue eyes gleamed in the dark restaurant like beacons. When shall we go then?” “Well the weather is perfect for the next month and a half,” Suzan put up as a trial balloon. We could put a rush on our visas and be on our way in a few weeks. You have a passport of course, don’t you Chad?” “Of course I do. I travel often internationally for work often each year, as you might expect due to my work in international finance and economics.”
“Great then Chad, let me get started on the paper work and I’ll get our visas ordered. Suzan didn’t tell Chad that she already had hers as did Joe.
Well, here we go. This might turn out to be an interesting trip.
Don’t forget to buy my two new novels, “The House On The Cliff,” and “The Bad Seed,” now on Amazon.
