The announcement for the flight to Rwanda came over the speaker just as Chad and Suzan finished a second glass of a very nice Chablis.
They glanced at each other and new it was time to gather up their belongings and get down to their gate. They put their books and glasses back in their carry on and headed for the escalator.
Tom watched and waited knowing that several of his fellow New York officers were waiting downstairs. When the Williams reached the foot of the escalator, he stood up, downed the last of his coffee and followed them.
The two FBI agents below, spied the couple as they climbed on to the escalator. A very small drone was launched back by the security office. It flew in the direction of where the couple were now slowly heading down to the main floor of the airport. All of the officers watched them come down slowly.
One officer’s mind wandered to how attractive Suzan was and then snapped back to the moment at hand.
“Just keep your wits about you and stay calm.” The tallish man who said that was an old hand at this type of thing. He had done this a thousand times without incident.
“Look Bob, the drone is up.” The two men looked up at a small black object floating silently above them. It was the size of a humming bird and fitted with four cameras. They had seen it earlier in the security office when everyone had gathered for their assignments and to go over the plan one more.
The finely dressed couple rode the escalator down completely at ease. When they reached the end of it, they ambled to their departure gate knowing they had plenty of time to board their plane. The crowded plane would be somewhat settled when they arrived.
Chad’s phone rang. He saw it was his brother and didn’t answer it.
“Who’s calling you now Chad? I thought you were on vacation?”
“It’s just my brother. he probably has a work related question for me but I’m on vacation now. I’m not answering him.”
“Good Chad, now you’re really on vacation.”
As they reached the loading gate the area was nearly empty. They showed their passports and tickets and boarded the plane.
So there you go. A little more of “Joe in Africa.”

There are several of my novels available on Amazon now.
“Atlanta” is a destrubing detective story while “Grandpa Ernie’ Secrets” is a fun and exciting spy thriller set in sunny Italy.
I am almost back to normal, what ever that looks like.
