Bhutan – Punakha – Day 15 – 2005

We climb through the forests and rododendrons up to the Dorchu La Pass at 3050 meters, or 10006 feet.

We can see the mountains all the way out to Gangar Pensum. At 7541 meters, or 24,740 feet, it is the highest mountan in Bhutan.

We drop down into a tranquil valley where bananas and oranges grow. This is Punakha. We can eat fresh, local oranges and bananas as we look at the enormous, snow capped Himalayan mountains all around us.

We stop at the Wangdi Phodrang Dzong. It is famous for it’s silver shingled roof and long thin balconied courtyards. This is where the monastic community lives.
