“Sailing Away” is the exciting 18th century follow up novel of “The Adventures of the Smith Family.”

It is the story of Sam, Lawrence’s younger brother. He has wanted to go to sea for a very long time. There have been several obstacles to keep Sam from his dream.

The voyage starts in “The Pool” of London and is supposed to reach it’s first stop, The Mediterranean Sea, at some point. Then the ship will travel down the west coast of Africa to Cape Town Colony, if all goes well.

There are many trade goods on “The Ever Ready” to be sold on their voyage in many ports of call. After reaching Cape Town, if they do, they will have to make the long voyage home.

In “Sailing Away,” Sam’s dream has finally come true. It will be a long voyage with an uncertain outcome. He will meet many different people with different backgrounds and desires. Some are sinners and some are saints. He may not even survive.

But he will learn a great deal about himself and others, along the way, if he does survive. There certainly will be surprises. Time will tell.

Along the way he will see the different sides of his sailing companions, booth good and bad.

If he survives, he may even grow up a little.
