Bhutan – Punakha Dzong – Day 16 – 2005

Punakha Dzong, or shrine, was built in 1637 on a sand bank of the confluence of the Mochu and Phochu Rivers.

This was the seat of the Bhutanese government until 1960.

The buildings are squat, rectangular buildings, made up of two or more levels, crowned by a tower and a small golden sphere on top.
